How to Decorate with Leather Furniture

Leather furniture can add a lot of character to your room. You can work with all different kinds of design styles from a typical bachelor pad all the way up to the penthouse. It’s a lasting and enduring style. However, it can also be a little bit overwhelming and masculine. Follow these tips to decorate successfully with leather furniture.

Vary the color. You’ll really want to choose a color that you can live with for several years or even decades. Leather furniture is one of the most expensive types of sofas and sectionals out there so you want to make sure that you get the piece that you can use for a long time. This makes it important to stay away from trendier items. For instance, if you would have bought a green leather couch 10 years ago then it would probably be outdated by now. If you went out and brought a tan leather couch 10 years ago it would still be in style to date.

Break up the set. Leather furniture can often overwhelm the space. An easy way around this is to just only buy one piece of leather furniture. You might want to go with just a very comfortable couch. Then you can find smaller and more feminine wicker arm chairs to really create a one-of-a-kind look that is also a lot less expensive than just buying the leather sofa and love seat.

Don’t let your budget dictate the materials that you use. Buying leather furniture is a big investment. However, you can always bring in a few accent pieces if you can’t afford to buy a whole new set. You’ll just need to think outside the box a little bit. For instance, you could just keep your existing sofa and then bring in some leather ottomans. This can actually work to your advantage because it adds warmth and texture without totally dominating your room.

Play around with the style of your furniture. Leather furniture can have a lot of character and work with different design styles. For instance, you could find a leather chair that has an old world feel because it has a reddish brown color to it. In this case you want to go with a very traditional shape with both rolled arms and nailhead trim. For a more modern leather sofa then you might be will to find a black piece with straight lines. This can be very masculine so you have to bring in a lot of color and pattern to make things a little bit more feminine in your space.
