Green Color Scheme

A green color scheme can be gender neutral or inspired by nature. Green is always a popular color in decorating; it’s just a matter of trying to find the shade that is popular at the moment. In the 70’s it was avocado, in the 90’s it was forest or hunter green. Now the trend is towards a more natural lemon grass green that works as a neutral color. Green can be used in every room in the home to create a natural or organic feel but it doesn’t have to be boring.

Green color shades can be cheerful instead of soothing. Kelly green is a brighter green that has a bit of a vintage flair. It may remind you of the dress that Scarlet O’Hara made out of curtains. Pay homage to Scarlet by using a thick velvet fabric on the furniture or tie the curtains back with tassels. Update the color by keeping the wall color neutral so the Kelly green can be the star.

A gray green color is considered to be one of the new neutrals. If you’re sick of seeing the same taupe sofa over and over go with a light to medium sage color. Pair this with a coca wall for a neutral color palette that still uses actual colors. A green sofa can be used in many different design styles and color palettes. Plus, it will hide dirt better than lighter colors.  You can punch it up the way you would with any other neutral color such as orange, yellow, purple or aqua.

Green paint colors work for every room in the house. If you have a guest room that doubles as a craft room try green. It will be a soothing enough area for guests to sleep and all of your craft items can serve as a punch of color. Lime green is a popular color in fashion and decorating but it has more gray to it, even if the decorators do call it lime. It’s more of a light avocado or muted olive color that works in a bright white bathroom or Zen home office.

If you treat green as a neutral it opens you up to a world of color combinations that will have your neighbors saying wow. This could mean green and pink for a nursery or gray and green for an unusual living space. Accent the room with black painted furniture so the walls are the focal point. Green is across the color wheel from read so they are complimentary colors. You may be scared to use that particular color palette because of the Christmas connotation. Look for a taupe color with an olive green color palette that won’t be glaring but the Christmas tree will look great in the room when the time comes.
