Red paint colors add spice and interest to an otherwise bland space. Red takes several coats of paint, so it’s a big commitment. After all that work you don’t want the room to become overwhelming and have to immediately change it. Use red to show off your fiery personality or create a romantic room.

Red interior paint can be romantic. Avoid using other colors with red so it doesn’t turn into a box of crayons. Instead, use large black and white photographs, and a white sofa and coffee table so that the red paint is the focal point of the room. Try red paint on kitchen cabinets in an all white room. Pair it with more sophisticated black granite counter and bright white walls. Red has become a popular decorating color in the past few years so you’ve probably seen a lot of red kitchens with white walls. So mix things up by doing the reverse.

Red wall paint can seem stark in a room. Paint the trim and ceiling a neutral taupe and gray for a less modern room. Look for medium wood tones that will blend in with the daring wall color. Very few rooms have enough light for all red walls. Try a focal wall or install paneling or bead board halfway up the wall and paint it a different color. There are many shades of red, some of which go towards a coral or pink and others that look like orange. Think of the perfect red lipstick that you always turn to. This will help you choose a red tone that will be flattering to you personally.

Brick red paint has more brown tones in it than a bright red. This makes it suitable for a moodier, or toned down room. It may feel more sophisticated so use it in a formal dining room. Uplights can accessorize plants or artwork. Use it on furniture instead of stain. This will give the appearance of a rich wood tone and can even work on ceiling beams.

Barn red paint   can spice up the exterior of your home. Try a red front door if you aren’t sure about painting the entire house red. Brickwork will seem more natural when painted red, so try it on a fireplace if the previous homeowner’s have already painted it. Use large wall panels to use red in a country way. All of the different shades of red can be combined on upholstered squares and used in place of a headboard. Look for fabrics with subtle pattern so you can pull neutral tones out of them for the rest of the room. Red and gold create an elegant feel while red and yellow have country or Tuscan charm.
