New Paint Colors for 2011

The new paint colors for 2011 are definitely bold and daring. There are some carryovers from 2010. These include a lot of grays and turquoises, but other jewel tones are also becoming really popular.

Consider the popular materials when it comes to hot paint colors for 2011. This includes chalkboard paint, chalkboard frames, chalkboard memo boards, and chalkboard walls. Of course this means a lot of black, which can work with a lot of zebra prints which were popular in 2010. You don’t have to update your entire color palette every year. Just find new ways to decorate your room with colorful accessories.

Another color for the year 2011 is going to be a burnt sienna tone. This has warmer red undertones then the typical chocolate brown or even espresso which has previously been very popular. This brings a natural effect to your room.

Fabric is another big indicator of what the popular color palettes have been. Ikat fabric with its oranges and blues will continue to be popular. However, we’re also seeing softer and more feminine fabrics. This has a lot to do with the crafting world. This uses lots of polka dots as well as watercolor kinds of fabrics in more traditional pinks.

We definitely saw a retro inspired vibe in fabric in 2011 and now it’s definitely being used a lot on fabrics and wall colors. Mustard yellow lends a retro vibe; but mixing it with Moroccan fabrics ensures that you get one of the more varied color palettes around.

Purple is back again but in a new tone. Instead of the eggplant or lavender that was popular last year, now it’s all about plum. Try using this on ottomans for a rock and roll feeling. It can be a little bit bold as a wall color so ground the room with lots of silver and gray. You can also use this in a shabby chic or farmhouse feeling with tons of ivory tones.

You can also use this on a lot of trendy and removable items if you aren’t up for painting. Wall decals in other branches or chandeliers are instantly going to help you to get one of these bold colors in your room with the wall color that you already have.

One of the biggest influences in your color palette is going to be your budget. You can also expect to find a lot of thrift store finds because of the way the economy is. This is going to use olive greens and turquoises. This is going to be very retro; so go with a bolder wall color such as a turquoise if you want colors that are more like the styles seen at Anthropologie.

We also see a big trend in wall collages; especially tons of different paintings. Usually you wouldn’t think a lot of these oil paintings. However, then you can just want to go with several of these altogether to tie your vintage palette together and they just cost a few dollars at thrift stores.

Gray is one of the biggest design trends. For a modern touch pair it with maple furniture. This is popular at stores such as IKEA. However, this is really going to be quite durable just because it has really been very popular for several years. However, since log style ottomans and end tables are so popular this really makes it a lot more fashionable and coordinates your old furniture with your new one. Just the contrast of this against the gray creates its own color palette.

The other big trend that we see a lot of is going to be frosted glass sliding wardrobe doors. Instead of just mirrored pieces we’re going to see more smoky designs that bring in amber or even smoky topaz kinds of tones to really elevate the neutrals to a whole new level.

The other way to add in lots of color is going to be with the everyday items that you need to store. This is going to use tons of books. Book art is very popular and you might be able to create it yourself. We’re also seeing faux books to store remotes or you’ll even find bookshelves hung on the wall. All of these simple accessories will really pop against gray walls.
